Help me choose a new logo design

May 25, 2012 · 195 comments

Hello brilliant mamas,

I’m working on redesigning the logo for my signature program, Designed for Wellness, and would love your help and input.

We have the concepts narrowed down to four options (see below).

Here’s a quick description of the course if you aren’t familiar with it:

Designed for Wellness is a 12 week program created specifically for busy moms who want a whole-person, realistic, step by step and grace-filled approach to nourishing and caring for themselves within the life they live.  Focusing on the fundamentals of healthy eating and living, this course acknowledges each layer of our whole selves (body, mind, emotions and spirit) and builds a toolbox full of strategies moms can actually use to deeply care for themselves while meeting the needs and demands of so many others in their life.

Women who go through this course literally find themselves transforming into the very best version of who they are, becoming more patient, calm, centered and energized in their everyday life.

Would you take a moment to leave a comment and let me know which you are most drawn to- and why?  And if you have any input on tweaks, feedback or other ideas that come to mind, please share them too.

Many many thanks for your help!

C is my Pick. Others seem unbalanced and confusing.

Jenny May 25, 2012 at 7:26 pm

C! All the way.

Reply

Kelly May 25, 2012 at 7:27 pm

I like C best also. I know the image in the others is of a woman, but it took looking at them a while to see it. One looks like a bottle opener at first glance. C is simple and clean.

Reply

Elizabeth May 25, 2012 at 7:55 pm

My first thought was bottle opener as well, so I prefer c.

Reply

Jessica B. May 25, 2012 at 7:28 pm

I like C, too.

Reply

Catharine May 25, 2012 at 7:28 pm

C jumped at me first. D would be 2nd choice. B doesn’t seem to be grounded to anything and A has too many colours.
Good luck!

Pam Gordon May 25, 2012 at 7:31 pm

I like D. The colors blend well and it appears like the person is grounded in the flower :)

My favorite is B. It’s simple, yet implies the message of the complete woman. My thing with the flower is busyness, and Lord knows we all have enough busyness around us. So, simple logo with powerhouse message I think is perfect. Just my opinion! : )

Shayla Larsen May 25, 2012 at 7:34 pm

C for me!

Reply

Angie May 25, 2012 at 7:35 pm

I prefer D, I think, but I don’t really care for the color scheme. Reds and oranges are energizing, and it seems like the program would be better reflected with colors that were more calming and centered, like lighter greens, blues and purples. My first instinct was B, because I don’t care all that much for the flower, but it isn’t very balanced. Maybe if you had B in a different color with just a circle below it to ground it..

Also, the wording the way it is bothers be a little. The g and the l’s are almost touching with the ascenders and descender, plus there’s all the extra white space on either side of those then. I would try and offset the text so they nestle a little bit, and maybe try and get them to fit in with the figure then too. Another idea may be to downplay the word for, which will give you more room to fit grounded in with wellness.

I hope that helps. This is what I do for a living, so I’m pretty critical :)

Emily May 25, 2012 at 7:36 pm

C is also my pick. I think I understand the basic idea, but the female figure rising out of the flower is a little odd. It makes me think of eastern religions, but not necessarily “wholistic wellness.” But I think the flower does capture that idea. After all, the course helps women blossom into the best version of themselves. The petals also portray the idea of layers, and gradual unfolding and opening to get to the heart. While the colors are vibrant, they aren’t as bold as some of the other options, so I like that better about it too. Have fun picking a logo!

Reply

Emily May 25, 2012 at 7:38 pm

Oh, and I agree with Angie about the color scheme!

Reply

Denise Antoon May 25, 2012 at 7:37 pm

I like C and D. D seems to be a bit more original, but there is a calm with C.

Reply

Kasie Roads May 25, 2012 at 7:37 pm

Lisa I love A, far and above all others. It looks like the well grounded mama emerging from the crucible fire of the lotus. Love it, and the colorsare fantastic. C is my second choice, it just seems a little more generic and simple to me, less artistic and not inclusive of the woman figure at is the core of your work. A would make a far more interestingT shirt than C, I kind of look at it that way too….

I like A as well, I like all the colors and the figure of the woman.

I think the “designed for” needs to be a bit darker/bolder, it is difficult to see as that size.

Reply

Catherine May 25, 2012 at 7:37 pm

Hi, I like C the best. Even thought I like A with the woman image, I think C is cleaner and I am more drawn to it.

Reply

Tamra May 25, 2012 at 7:38 pm

When I scanned the images my eyes were drawn to C. Beautiful !

Reply

Deb May 25, 2012 at 7:39 pm

C is my choice. Maybe it’s my daughter’s influence, but the image of the person in red with a crown suggests “princess” to me and I don’t think of the information you share as promoting the “inner princess” and the images that the word princess brings to mind for me. The yellow and orange in option C have a “transforming” feel to it more than red…too much red suggests the once a month thing and not necessarily positive change. I like the subtely of the blue color being in the shape of a butterfly…though maybe try it in green? Green for vitality and health and nurturing (from plants, etc.) One more thing, in your description you mentioned layers of the whole self….maybe add some more layers to option C….I know it’s always better to be less cluttered..but somehow incorporating the idea of layers and many facets seems fitting to an identity image for this program.

Reply

Dianne May 25, 2012 at 7:39 pm

My eye goes to C first. I know that some of the others make a little more sense, intellectually, but C is the best visual composition. If you really want to have a logo with the girl, maybe edit D to have less red/orange. I am not a huge fan of the red used in this logo set. I know it’s your website colors, but instead of being invigorating, when mixed with the yellows, it is just jumpy, loud, and impulsive and doesn’t invoke/represent the general tone of your content, which is more calm, thoughtful, and purposeful. C gets away with it because of its simplicity, but it does feel like a reference to nature which may or may not be the main focus of your series. Have you thought of changing the colors around, using a real green for the “leaves” and the teal for the female form, and stick with red or yellow for the flower parts?

Reply

Amy May 25, 2012 at 7:40 pm

I like C

Reply

Arlene May 25, 2012 at 7:40 pm

Ok, I’m totally going against the flow here, but I love A. The colors draw my attention, and it looks like the woman is blossoming…which I LOVE! D would be my second choice. Good luck, Lisa. I think it’s going to be a though decision. :D

Reply

Kate May 25, 2012 at 7:42 pm

My initial fave was C, and the others seemed too busy but for your course I think the icon of the woman is appropriate. So, final answer is: D, because the colors seem to radiate at the root of the woman.

Reply

Jeannette May 25, 2012 at 7:43 pm

Someone mentioned that one of the logos looks like a beer bottle opener. I think they all do except for “C”. So, “C” is my choice. Thank you for the opportunity to leave feedback.

Reply

Judy Griffin May 25, 2012 at 7:43 pm

I like D the best because I feel it relays the most meaning. Although, I might prefer a vivid green for the bottom leaves instead of the turquoise. I also think it may not need those extra petals/leaves.

Reply

eileen May 25, 2012 at 7:44 pm

I like C, I don’t really like the woman? coming out of the flower…..however, the burnt orange in A is really nice, can there be any color changes? if not…def C….my eyes went right to it…….looking good!

Reply

Lauren May 25, 2012 at 7:44 pm

I can see what Angie is getting at, especially with the G and Ls. Of the four, I’d take A or C. As Emily says, A seems a bit like a yoga logo (say that three times fast!) but C doesn’t have the woman that is central to your practice. B seems too stretched out, and D doesn’t have the contrast that would allow it to pop in a B/W photocopy or tiny URL logo.

Reply

Lauren May 25, 2012 at 7:45 pm

…although I like the proprotions of the woman vs flower in D better than in C

I definitely like A. I like the woman emerging from the bloom, which is how I see the transformations that occur during DFW. I like the changing colors of the bloom because of how it represents change/growth/movement. While I like C, the solitary bloom, A seems to encompass all that the DFW course provides.

C, but with D a close second. The women some how comes off as reminiscent of a bottle opener, someone doing yoga, or a princess as others have indicated. I would prefer a different placement of the arms e.g hugging herself rather than above her head. If that change was made, I think I would prefer D.

Heather May 25, 2012 at 7:59 pm

I love D. C is my runner up.

A or C. I like the yellow – eye catching. and these two have the most balance.

Anne May 25, 2012 at 8:00 pm

I like A and C best. I don’t like B at all–with no context other than the caption, it would be unclear what it was meant to be–and in fact, it looks somewhat phallic to me. The colors in D are more on the “hot” side of the spectrum–health and wellness is generally associated with “cooler” colors like green, blue, and purple. As to choosing between A and C–I am leaning towards A. The flower in C is pretty, but doesn’t have a solid connection to the theme. I like the woman rising up from the flower in A, but I wonder whether something different would work better. For example, changing the orange petals in C to hands surrounding a heart in the center of the flower (kind of like a claddagh design, but with the hands in more of a vertical position–fingers toward the sky, but curving in slightly around the heart).

Lynne B May 25, 2012 at 8:01 pm

C of these but be sure to know the back ground of spiritual meanings for the lotus to make sure it goes along with what you are communicating (believe it is a Buddhist symbol?).

C for sure. It’s not as busy.

Reply

Lisa May 25, 2012 at 8:05 pm

C is my favorite logo. The colors don’t seem to portray what I think of as “well ground”. I think I would choose something more “earth” and less “fire”.

I like A- it has the women, color & flower embodying all you bring to the table! The pop of yellow is lively, the flower has been done. But the women with it & the pop of color perfect. Good luck xoxoxo

Reply

RA May 25, 2012 at 8:05 pm

I like C the best. think there is something about the design of the woman that doesn’t draw me. also feel the colors don’t invite a calm response.

Reply

Lynn May 25, 2012 at 8:07 pm

I like the concept of the female figure but the figure alone (B) looks like a bottle opener. In A, the flower is too complicated and the petals give the figure a odd hip shape … almost like jodhpurs. The lotus flower alone (D) seems too generic and isn’t specifically feminine. So I like D but with some color changes … the red-orange flower blends in a bit too much and results in just too much energy and red. Perhaps the yellow petals of A could look nice and still give that subtle hint of hips and thighs in the figure. And I think the transparent and gradient yellow might make that color easier on the eye if you are sticking to your color concept.

Reply

Laura May 25, 2012 at 8:07 pm

C is my favorite. But I realize it doesn’t specify that the course is for PEOPLE. The human element is missing.

Reply

Amy May 25, 2012 at 8:10 pm

A is my favorite. It was the first one to stick out for me. I like the image of the woman come out of the lotus. I also liked the yellow. It made the image pop. I think these would make great t-shirts.

Reply

Jessica May 25, 2012 at 8:13 pm

As a designer, I can say to you that C doesn’t really say much about what you’re doing – A and D are the most representative of what you’re trying to design in your program. That’s my $.02!

I will go with C. I like the idea of a woman in full bloom (d) not the arm position.

Reply

Jennifer May 25, 2012 at 8:15 pm

I’ll be the odd duck and vote for A. I like the person in the logo and the colours of the flower. When the colour scheme is more like D, I find it harder to discern the person. The flower alone doesn’t speak to me of wellness and the person alone isn’t obvious.

Reply

melissa May 25, 2012 at 8:15 pm

B looks like a misshapen uterus. any of the others would be preferable. I like C best, but the lotus is also used everywhere, so maybe combining it as in A or D would be a little more unique.

Reply

tina May 25, 2012 at 8:16 pm

A: the woman is emerging — whole and refreshed — from the center of the flower. Encompasses the step-by-step aspect, as well as the other descriptors you provided. I like the gradations on her body (in D) better, though, than the solid red, or perhaps it’s just that I like the brighter red in B better than the brick red color in A. I don’t care much for the “crown” she’s holding.

Reply

Carol May 25, 2012 at 8:17 pm

Not very turned on by these. The woman = bottle opener.

I have always loved the colors in your flower design, (main website logo). kind of pastel but classy with a little gray/heather softness. Mothers as soft and that’s why the red lady turned me right off.

Ilike the idea of the woman figure arising from the flower with outsert cued arms. And I like the nod to Indian goddesses who arise from lotus flowers.

Reply

I like C the best. Simple, yet eye-catching.

Reply

Alli May 25, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I really like the balance in D, not crazy about the colors though. Out of them all I think it’s the best one. C doesn’t really make sense, B looks lopsided, and in A I find the flower the focus not woman, maybe if you made her a different color it would work.

Reply

Laura May 25, 2012 at 8:20 pm

I like A. Reason: the mix of colors is nice, the image gives me the feeling of a woman rising up with a crown on her head, and the flower is pretty. I like D, too, but for some reason, maybe the vertical height and balance of it?, it looks more like a pacifier or a spoon handle than a woman.

B looks like a pacifier, bottle opener, or some off health device… yuck!

Good luck! And thanks for asking for input. It’s fun!

Heather B May 25, 2012 at 8:46 pm

I like D. The image of the woman is clever, but is too busy in A…and too simple in B. Good luck!

Reply

Leslie Morgan Knable May 25, 2012 at 8:48 pm

I prefer C because I see a “tiara” on the female’s head and it makes me think “princess.”

One suggestion before you make your final choice, is to ask your designer to show you how the logo will look if it is reproduced as a one color image (white ink on black background or black ink on white background).

By seeing the design translated into its simplest form you will be able to tell how strong the design really is. Most likely the day will come when the logo will need to appear as a one color image … (newspaper article about your program in the Wall Street Journal? Embroidered tshirts for national frainchise? promotional pencils used as give-aways at health & wellness fairs?).

C or A, they both have the same colour scheme, which is nicer with the happy yellows & calming blues, not just firey reds/oranges.
C has no person, so doesn’t connect to your course as much. But is pretty.
A the woman looks like a bottle-opener.
I’d chose A if she looked more womany and less bottle-opener/yoga-princess.
As they are now, I’d go with C.

Second choice….C

Ok I went back and looked at others and honestly I didn’t even pay attention to the words. What is the thought behind the different levels of gray? Totally does not stand out. And hahaha the woman DOES look like a bottle opener. I guess the way I looked at it was a woman emerges energized and proud (as the arms up seems to say look at me) from the course. For a more relaxed I would do someone in a lotus in a meditation pose with arms down but that may be too eastern/buddhist then you are looking for.

I like C quite a bit. The red figure reminds me of fallopian tubes.

C is great! Others remind me of bottle openers and yoga (which I love, but this isn’t a yoga site).

I love your idea of having your readers help you out – brilliant! Logo a originally jumped out at me, but I think I like the colors of logo c the best. Love them all though – awesome!

C. Others remind me of a can opener/Barba Papa or are too complicated.

Reply

I like A, because it seems to incorporate all the elements and colors. It looks well-rounded.

Reply

C is my first choice and A would be my second.

I like D the best, and I disagree with the bottle opener thing others saw. It is obviously a goddess type symbol and I like the colors

Reply

Nivek May 26, 2012 at 1:22 am

I like C however I think D gives the bigger picture that the course if focused on supporting women.

Nancy May 26, 2012 at 1:58 am

I like A the best. Woman as part of the blossoming, multi-colored lotus relates well to what the program is about – I love that she holds a crown :-)

I think the limited color palette of the lotus in D looks too much like flames, which is more like life BEFORE the program.

The other two are nice in their simplicity, but don’t really resonate with the mission of the program.

A is outstanding! I love the colors and the integration of person and flower. You can’t go wrong though. All of them are lovely.

Molly May 26, 2012 at 2:07 am

A is too busy. B is just strange (it reminds me of an octopus). C is rather boring. D is perfect! (You said you wanted it straight! :)

I like C as well, the other ones with the woman make me think of her appointing herself as a queen.

I love A. It makes me think of a woman thriving and beautiful. My least favorite is B. It’s just not personal to me.

I like D. Simple with a message of woman’s growth.

Reply

Ileana May 26, 2012 at 3:57 am

D was the one that called to me the most upon first glance and I always vote with my gut on such things. I find that it represents the theme of your services/course really well, unlike C which albeit clean and simple doesn’t portray to me what you/the course does. I disagree about some of the comments about the colour scheme. Although a bright red would be more energizing & flashy, I find the colours to be a lovely balance between radiating in a calming fashion, and yes energizing. You talk a lot about feeling more energized, as well as centered, so I see nothing wrong with a nice balance here. Best of luck… & it was fun providing feedback:)

My favorite is A. Quoted from above “this course acknowledges each layer of our whole selves (body, mind, emotions and spirit)”…A makes me think of the layers Healthy body emerging after all the other layers have been nurtured. A flower doesn’t bloom to its best if it doesn’t have the right nurishment.

Jen L May 26, 2012 at 5:37 am

I like both A and C. But I’m leaning towards C because while I resonate with the Goddess symbol, I think it may turn off many of your ideal clients. Plus I like the color combo! :D

Del Marie Riley May 26, 2012 at 8:48 am

I have only read a few of the comments above, too many to read them all. Lol. I really like the concept of D and C. So here are my suggested tweaks for D: I love the lady evolving out of the flower. Keep the same concept but incorporate some of the yellow petal to be inside the red one that was already there. Make the women’s figure evolve from the yellow flower. Make the woman’s body Larger as she evokes. But make the woman’s figure the prominent . Also have where the flowers and lady meet do a gradient change from the color of the flowers to gently fade away as the lady stands taller upward with her arms up. Sorry it may crazy, I just have problem trying to explain art and design. Hope it help out a bit. Good luck.

I like A and C – C is cleaner and more “fresh” and it feels like a flower opening and the beauty of that moment. I like that A incorporates the figure of what appears to be a woman with a crown, but I did think bottle opener like some of the others (I did not read all the comments) the colors of C are arranged in a way that emphasizes light emerging at the center. On looking again – I vote C. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you decide -

My daughter and I like A. I like the colors and the height of the woman, as if she is stretching to the heavens for her crown!! Bottle openers, that is funny but definitely not what I saw first glance. Guess I don’t use those gadgets so much.

I love A. A woman emerging in health from a beautiful lotus flower. Let that be my future me! C is my second choice, it just seems a more generic. I hate to miss the woman figure, but at least a flower is a feminine image.

Reply

Csilla Bischoff May 26, 2012 at 10:09 pm

A and D are my favorite for sure. C is nice but I think having the woman in the middle is a great symbol for what the program is about. Perhaps having the colors of A with the shape of D. The idea of the flower is a bit yoga-ish for me. When I read the word “transformation” I immediately thought of a butterfly. Good luck with this.

I’d combine A’s colors plus female emerging image with C’s fullness. Actually, I prefer the female shape in D with this as she is wider and just shooting up from the petals. Personally I would have here arms extending out stamen like rather than joined above into the crown. I prefer the openess and think it would be more- flowering, emerging vs the fertility goddess symbol with her arms connected- like a bottle opener.
If you go with the flower alone I would go with the beautiful colors of A with the shape of C.
The female image is great if you are emphasizing women emerging, blossoming, being born, and birthing, but at the same time the very strong reference to the goddess symbol, brings with it all of those references. Not sure how that appeals for you or your ideal clients. If it’s a yes, great.

The image of C without the woman is beautiful but less targeted to women. It’s a little less dramatic and safer. With the woman it is edgier, stronger in some ways in terms of your unique brand. I’d just want to break her out of that goddess posture a bit. It’s a little confining actually, and unless you are strongly connected to that, I’d go more for a female image less “goddess symbol, freer, more modern.

The graphics are lovely.

Now what about, Designed for Wellness? I like the words and font, but it’s vague. Not sure how it ties in with what you are going for. I like the word vibrant from what you have now and it goes with the new image. There is also this feeling of emerging, and I could imagine “Emerging Wellness” or something like that. Again, not sure what you are wanting to communicate in your brand. The image is strong, but the intent unclear. I want to hear more about the message.

Sorry, I just caught on that the design is for your sig program, so the words make more sense now than if if this was your new company name. While I agree with the person who shared they would prefer blues and greens, more calming colors, if this was your company logo, for your sig program I like it.
The energy is great and it stands out and is distinctive. Best of luck to you.

I like A!! I noticed a lot of people like C, but I think adding the image of the woman depicts much better what your class is all about! And the yellow is A, as opposed to D, is so attractive. Good luck. Took us forever to pick a logo. This was a great idea!

Reply

Peggy May 27, 2012 at 6:29 pm

I agree with Nicole…A for sure! C seems very generic and is a symbol well used. A adds a womanly and distinct effect :-)

Reply

Meredith May 28, 2012 at 1:00 am

My first instinct was C because it features just the plant, and your program is focused on healthy, natural eating; the colors and design imply the spiritual and emotional part. Then, I started to think maybe D was better because it shoes the emotional, physical and spiritual part of the woman more overtly. Sorry I couldn’t be more conclusive! Agree with the comment about A and By evoking a bottle opener.

A or C, I really liked the color of both-esp A, in fact looking again I think I like A a little better, but the shape of C was a little simpler. B and D seem too simple and too much red (known as kind of an aggravating color)

I love both A and D. I am more drawn to D because of it’s simple color scheme (I like the way the body blends in with the petals of the flower), but I like the flower in A better. So basically, if it were me, I would recolor A to be more minimalist like D. But they are all wonderful! :)

Reply

AD May 29, 2012 at 9:47 am

D – because the openess of the flow indicates an openess to the world and the woman seems to be growing out of it – i.e. growth.

Reply

Angela May 29, 2012 at 2:17 pm

I love the colors / look of C and would try adding the woman the size of A (but taking off part of bottom – so not as tall – more like part of flower) & using color of woman in D (red / orange shades vs. just red). Hope that makes sense!

Reply

Kate May 29, 2012 at 8:25 pm

You said no sugar coating so her it goes. B looks like a bottle opener to me for some reason. C doesn’t help me make the connection back to women, mama’s or even humans. I like A more than D because it has more color, however both feel like the logo was designed for a yoga studio. I think you need to go back to the drawing board. I also think that the figure needs to represent women somehow.

I like A the best. I see a woman gradually emerging from of a multitude of things (represented by the different colors). We have layers of things in our lives that we are transformed by & through. I also like the text of “Designed for Wellness”. I think I would like the “arms” open & stretched upward & somewhat outward instead…
